BACKGROUND: This Living Adventure international program was developed in the flavor of all of our overseas programs; it was first based on a personal trip by company owners Gail Green and Grant Herman. They could see that this was a truly remarkable place in it's own right and moreover, a world class location for a sea kayaking trip. Over subsequent visits, local friendships were gelled, locations paddled and hiked, food sampled and the logistics came together! In the fall of 2009 we ran our first program with guests. It was a smashing success.
One reason for the success of our international programs is the integration of local people and resources. In Brittany we are hosted by a local kayaking club: Centre Nautique Paimpol/Loguivy. Club leaders and members act as hosts, guides and friends and provide transportation and support for the kayaking and hiking trips. Francois and Louis are our principle on water leaders and language translators. Veronique travels from her home town of Rennes to join us and share her expertise of regional flora and fauna. Their combined knowledge of local history and culture add immeasurably to the experience. Maura keeps it all glued together with logistics and the culinary aspects of the trip. The spirit of rugged coastal living, rich humor and enjoyment of life runs deeply in their character and spices the trip experience as only a Breton can.
FACILITY: The kayaking and hiking outings are day-based trips. Each late afternoon we return to our home in the village of Treguier; a medieval town that was once a gated city. Treguir is noted as a, Cité de Caractère, a designation given to small cities in France that still closely reflect their ancient heritage. The villa we stay in is privately owned by Living Adventure friends. It was completely renovated from an ancient crumbling structure to a fabulous country house decorated in the style of an elegant French manor. Stepping out the front door is truly an almost incomprehensible step into history. Narrow, winding cobblestone streets lead you to the cathedral and markets in the town center.
- Our group size is 8; not counting resource staff.
- Rooms are double occupancy; some with their own baths, others share
a common bathroom.
- The kitchen, living room with fireplace, patio and outside deck are enjoyed by all.
