Trip participants fly from your departure city to Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris. We ask that you find flights that arrive between 10:00-11:00 am Paris time on September 30.  From the airport we transport with Paris Shuttle  to the Montparnasse train station, about a 40 minute drive.  The French trains are wonderful and known for their prompt departure and arrival times. We travel in first class cars on these amazing trains that go almost 200 mph! The trip to the train station in Guingamp is about 3.5 hours and is an odyssey of French countryside vistas. From the Guingamp train station, it's about  30 minutes by van to our home in the village of Treguier. Traveling  back to Paris, the train ride provides a wonderfully contemplative space to absorb the experience of the week.  We arrive in Paris with time to settle in to our hotel, do a little sightseeing, and enjoy a Paris restaurant.

PADDLING SKILLS REQUIREMENTS & COMPANION OPPORTUNITIES:
One goal of this trip is to provide both previous Living Adventure guests and those new to our company with a next step in their development as paddlers.  Tidal considerations, exposed shorelines and rocky launch and landing sites dictate that paddlers have a fair amount of rough water experience and fitness to enhance enjoyment of the paddling segments of this trip.

  • This is an  Intermediate level trip: meaning participants are comfortable with wet exits, can fluidly both execute and enter a kayak from the water in assisted t-rescues, have instinctual use of low and high braces and have the endurance to paddle 15 miles in a day.
  • Having said that, it is very possible that you will never use a low brace or paddle a 15 mile day on this trip! But because of the unpredictable nature of the sea, even a calm day can turn to a day when these skills are necessary.
  • On some of the paddle tour days there are opportunities for the group to split; those wanting more  mileage can select one route, while others can opt for a lesser mileage day. Also, people can opt to not paddle at all on some of the planned kayaking days, and choose to hike or sight see instead.

Fortunately the dates of our Brittany trip come at the end of our best summer weather in the northern US - so trip participants have all summer to prepare for the paddling components of the trip. We WANT you to join us (!) If you feel you are on the cusp of the listed skill areas, we encourage you to seek instruction and get out on the water as much as possible this summer to prepare yourself for the trip.

We are happy to discuss your experience level to see if it is appropriate and to make recommendations for how to bolster your skill level this summer.

In some cases non-paddling companions may join our group to enjoy all other aspects of the experience.  This will be partly dictated by the overall group size.
