Each year we find more parents introducing their kids to kayaking: they are our future guides (!), let's get 'em out on the water. Age limits for all of our trips where kids take on a full paddling position (bow or stern of a tandem kayak) are 12 years for day trips and 16 years for overnights. Kids ages 7-11 can come along as 'duffers' in a non-paddling center position in a triple kayak if there are two adults to accompany them. These age limits are determined by kayak dimensions, dynamics in mixed age groups, and the seriousness of paddling on Lake Superior.
Grouping families together allows us more flexibility with taking more kids of varied ages, sharing paddling positions in the kayaks, and routing and length of time on the water. Families with kids within the general age limits are welcome to join us on any trip during the summer, but if you prefer to paddle with other families - check out one of following trips.
